Relationship Manager (RM) III - Tax Credit

Salary Range: $136,599 – $224,413

Job Overview

The Relationship Manager III – Tax Credit is a highly independent subject matter expert who plays a crucial role in the execution of sophisticated transactions. This role requires significant experience and a deep network of contacts, with involvement in business generation, underwriting, portfolio management, and mentoring junior staff.

Primary Responsibilities New Business Development & Related Responsibilities
  • Achieve sales goals and objectives.
  • Represent the Bank at networking events and industry organizations.
  • Leverage a deep network of contacts for business generation and market advice.
  • Actively manage a prospect list and consistently network with COIs and internal business partners.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of underwriting procedures, including recommending complex structures.
  • Understand risk acceptance criteria and appropriate occasions to seek exceptions.
  • Maintain awareness of due diligence risk areas (e.g., fraud).
  • Supervise and assist in writing pre‑deals and credits at a high quality, requiring limited overview.
  • Engage with internal risk review and external reviewers in a credible manner, answering queries appropriately.
Underwriting and Due Diligence
  • Extensive knowledge of underwriting procedures, including recommending complex structures.
  • Deep understanding of risk acceptance criteria and appropriate occasions to seek exceptions.
  • Strong awareness of specific risk areas (including fraud) in due diligence.
Credit Interactions
  • Supervise and assist in writing pre‑deals and credits at a high quality, requiring limited overview.
  • Engage with internal risk review and external reviewers in a credible manner.
  • Present complex credits for discussion, addressing key issues and probing questions.
  • Deep understanding of loan documents and legal structures.
  • Negotiate complex loan documents, highlighting issues to TL/GH when appropriate.
  • Negotiate effectively with borrowers to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Collaborate with PM to maintain strong portfolio quality, including covenant testing and risk ratings.
  • Maintain awareness of risk factors within the portfolio and adjust risk ratings as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Construction Management Group on active construction loans.
  • Review appraisals and field exams and surface issues to TL and GH.
  • Assist Group Head with tax credit investment strategy and portfolio management.
  • Guide AVP/VP on roles in the absence of TL/GH; serve as a mentor to junior staff.
Legal / Loan Closings
  • Deep understanding of loan documents and legal structures.
  • Negotiate complex loan documents, highlighting issues to TL/GH.
  • Negotiate effectively with borrowers for optimal outcomes.
Portfolio Management & Related Responsibilities
  • Work with PM to maintain portfolio quality, including covenant testing and risk ratings.
  • Adjust risk ratings based on portfolio risk factors.
  • Coordinate with Construction Management Group on active construction loans.
  • Review appraisals and field exams; surface issues to TL and GH.
  • Assist Group Head with tax credit investment strategy and portfolio management.
Training Responsibilities
  • Guide AVP/VP and mentor junior staff, imparting underwriting knowledge to PM.
  • Recommend policy enhancements and exceptions to TL.
  • Proficient with relevant technology, including market research data and nCino covenant and tracking reports.

  • Proficient with market research data and nCino covenant and tracking reports.
Special Projects
  • Assist in deeper administrative or strategic projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Commercial Lender with proven underwriting abilities.
  • Formal Bank credit training preferred.
  • Experience structuring tax credit investments and equity portfolio management preferred.
