the Role

The Insurance Strategist will play a critical, franchise‑protecting role in Wellington's global insurance business. The primary mandate is to build, scale, and institutionalize insurance solutions capability, with particular emphasis on Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA), regulatory‑aware portfolio construction, and supporting infrastructure across global insurance regimes.

This role is foundational to maintain existing insurance relationships, enabling complex mandates, and scaling the platform efficiently—not solely a revenue attribution role.

The Insurance Strategist serves as the technical backbone of Wellington's insurance solutions platform, responsible for building scalable tools, systems, and processes that support insurance‑specific Strategic Asset Allocation and portfolio analysis. The role enables the efficient, repeatable delivery of solutions across regions and regulatory regimes, while acting as a credible technical counterpart to actuaries, CIOs, regulators, and senior investment professionals. In addition, the role contributes to strengthening team infrastructure through the development and support of junior insurance resources.

Responsibilities

Strategic Asset Allocation & technical execution
  • Lead and execute insurance‑specific SAA work, including asset–liability considerations, regulatory constraints, capital efficiency, and portfolio optimization
  • Own and deeply understand the assumptions, mechanics, and math behind SAA models
Regulatory expertise
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of insurance regulatory regimes, including US and non‑US frameworks
  • Apply regulatory requirements pragmatically to portfolio design and SAA outcomes
Infrastructure, tools, and scalability
  • Build and improve systems, tools, and workflows supporting insurance solutions
  • Improve efficiency, turnaround time, and quality of outputs Client engagement (technical focus)
    • Serve as technical authority in client discussions
    • Communicate complex concepts clearly to actuaries and CIOs
    Team leadership and collaboration
    • Mentor and support junior resources
    • Collaborate closely with PMs, strategists, and regional teams
    Essential Skills
    • Deep technical background in insurance SAA, actuarial modeling, or insurance investment solutions
    • Strong understanding of insurance regulation and capital frameworks
    • Ability to build and work with quantitative models and analytical tools
    • Experience scaling insurance solutions infrastructure
    • Ability to translate technical outputs into client‑ready explanations
    • Collaborative leadership style
