Research Finance Analyst

About the Opportunity

The Research Finance Analyst supports the functions of the central Research Finance office within Northeastern University Research Enterprise Services (NU-RES) by ensuring compliance with applicable federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and university policies. The role involves fostering consultative relationships, supporting a professional internal environment, and providing award support and training focused on financial research administration and fiscal compliance. The Analyst will manage grants and contracts, collaborate with stakeholders, and provide guidance and training to colleagues and the broader research community.

This position requires data analysis, presentation skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.

• Award Management (30%)
  • Maintain familiarity with federal regulations and sponsor guidelines.
  • Review award documentation and system configuration of new accounts.
  • Monitor account activities to ensure expenditures align with scope.
  • Complete timely award closeout and coordinate related processes.
• Transaction Processing (30%)
  • Review and approve or reject various transactions such as procurement requisitions and travel expenses.
  • Ensure all expenses posted to an account comply with award terms and regulations.
  • Monitor account balances and engage stakeholders to avoid deficits.
  • Prepare and submit accounting adjustments or journals as needed.
• Reporting & Analytics (30%)
  • Perform account reconciliations of varying complexity.
  • Investigate root causes and resolve issues to ensure accuracy.
  • Extract and manipulate data to prepare financial reports using prescribed templates.
  • Maintain accurate reporting schedules and meet internal and external deadlines.
• Training & Support (5%)
  • Attend training and meetings focused on federal regulations and financial research administration.
  • Provide training, presentations, or resources to colleagues, PIs, and administrators.
• Other (5%)
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Assist with ad hoc or miscellaneous projects as needed.

• Bachelor's degree or 2‑5 years of relevant work experience.
• Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain clearance at the Secret level.
• Financial analysis and reporting experience with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, or other regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and attention to detail.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated customer service and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred:

• Research administration experience.
• Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) credential.
• Experience creating and delivering presentations and training to diverse audiences.

Expected Hiring Range: $76,335.00 – $
