Team Profile

This role is located in the Office of the Chief Operating Officer for Morgan Stanley’s Investment Management Business. The team manages investment management agreements (IMAs), governance, conflicts and legal risk for the investment management business.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general business support for the Separately Managed Account (SMA) business in the U.S. region.
  • Negotiate and document IMAs for the SMA client base.
  • Support global investment management projects, including strategic and governance‑related initiatives.
  • Assist other geographical regions (EMEA, Asia‑Pacific) as required.
  • Contribute to wider initiatives and documentation across the business.
Qualifications
  • Qualified lawyer with 4‑7 years of experience at a major law firm, in‑house legal department, or financial institution.
  • Knowledge of asset‑management industry, investment management agreements and related commercial contracts.
  • Familiarity with investment funds and, optionally, derivative trading documentation (ISDA/CSA, clearing agreements, futures, repo, stock‑lending).
  • Understanding of financial‑services regulation affecting asset management.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and project‑management skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and risk‑assessment abilities.
  • Commercial mindset, initiative, and ability to influence stakeholders.
Benefits
  • Base salary range: $150,000 to $225,000 per year, to be determined individually.
  • Potential for commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, and other short‑ and long‑term incentive packages.
