The VP, Client Manager is responsible for owning all aspects of client retention for an assigned group of borrowers, generating value by leveraging the Bank’s services and products to deepen relationships through expertise in financing options and service offerings, and delivering an outstanding client experience. The VP, Client Manager monitors the quality of assigned borrowers, grows strong relationships, and proactively addresses any under‑performance.
The VP, Client Manager coordinates with Originations colleagues to manage relationships with Venture Capital sponsors and borrowers. This position requires independent work with limited supervision.
- Own all aspects of the borrower relationship within the assigned portfolio.
- Retain quality clients through financing expertise and coordinated service delivery.
- Exit or remediate under‑performing borrowers with minimal losses.
- Lead the Portfolio Management collaboration with the Origination team prior to loan closing.
- Track performance of client operations and engage with venture capital sponsors to monitor funding intent and capacity.
- Ensure accurate credit grading of all assignments according to the Bank’s risk rating procedures.
- Conduct independent collateral verification, protection, and borrower due diligence on an ongoing basis.
- Perform financial analysis to monitor trends and identify opportunities to enhance value to Banc of California and clients.
- Lead underwriting, approval, negotiation, and closing of additional funding or loan modifications.
- Prepare reports and summaries to inform management about portfolio performance.
- Communicate with clients and supervisors to anticipate potential loan issues and formulate creative resolutions.
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and coaching to junior team members.
- Participate in hiring and employee performance evaluations.
- Support staff development, training, and coaching.
- Follow all established policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
- Knowledge of and compliance with state and federal regulations governing banking and lending activities.
- Proficiency with Word and Excel.
- Entrepreneurial work ethic and strong analytical skills.
- Familiarity with departmental and human‑resources policies.
