Underwriter, Financial Analyst
Purpose and Job Summary
Reporting to a Deputy Chief Underwriter, the Analyst supports underwriting multifamily mortgage financing programs. The Analyst must demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, analytical ability, drive to manage document requests and collection, and effective communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the Underwriter during the loan underwriting process, requesting, collecting, and managing required documentation; prepare, distribute, and maintain due diligence checklists and application workbooks.
- Collect, review, and advise the underwriting team regarding receipt and status of all underwriting documentation.
- Establish and maintain loan files and organize documents in electronic data storage folders.
- Order and obtain professional reports and verifications from external parties.
- Verify and update property operating information in the underwriting analysis workbook; review borrower/sponsor financial statements, credit reports, and investor database checks.
- Transfer data from professional reports (appraisal, engineering, environmental assessment, seismic analysis, zoning, market reports) into the underwriting analysis workbook and narrative.
- Assist in preparing loan committee presentations, drafting sections of the underwriting narrative and preparing exhibits.
- Assemble loan packages and deliver to investors after closing; process invoices for payment and prepare final accounting.
- Work professionally and harmoniously with team and coworkers; travel up to 25% for project needs.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, real estate, or a related field from an accredited college/university.
Minimum of one to two years of commercial real estate experience required; multifamily experience preferred. Experience with Fannie Mae and/or Freddie Mac multifamily loan programs preferred.
Knowledge of financial statement analysis, general accounting, cash flow and mortgage interest calculations, real estate finance and investment real estate, particularly multifamily.
Highly analytical, results‑driven, strong planning and organizational skills, excellent listening and communication, and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Compensation & Benefits- Annual base salary: $70,000 – $85,000 (MA and CA only).
