The Retirement Consultant (RC)
The RC works as a member of a broader team with a collaborative culture, responsible for over $3.5B in annual asset retention, including IRA rollover flows. The role involves educating and guiding 401(k) participants who are terminating or retiring to make informed decisions about their retirement assets, understanding their unique needs, and offering guidance on all available options. The RC must be well‑versed in John Hancock 401(k) products as well as the company's IRA offerings, including the JH Mutual Fund IRA, JH Managed IRA and JH Guaranteed Income for Life Variable Annuity IRA (GIFL).
The RC will collaborate with other key roles within the Personal Financial Services team and strategically manage inbound and outbound calls to assist all participants with their retirement needs on time.
- Member of a phone‑based team focused on educating 401(k) participants about retirement asset options when leaving their employers.
- Discuss differences, nuances and advantages of distribution options and available products to help participants make informed decisions.
- Present options and offer solutions aligned with participant goals.
- Quickly analyze and assess participants' unique needs, present options and take action accordingly.
- Assist advisors from partner firms in navigating the distribution process; refer potential leads to plan advisors per predetermined commitments.
- Become well‑versed in John Hancock’s 401(k) and IRA product offerings and investment options.
- Facilitate successful rollovers into the IRA product that best meets participant needs.
- Assist 401(k) participants with opening or funding of a JH IRA account.
- Work directly with financial intermediaries to channel assets into John Hancock.
- Deliver a superior customer experience while assisting participants in decision‑making.
- Review participants’ current 401(k) investment line‑up and compare to JH IRA options.
- Leverage investment tools such as the JH Fund Matching tool.
- Meet monthly activity and productivity targets.
- Adhere to highest levels of integrity and professional conduct.
- Participate in training and coaching programs to enhance skills and foster advancement.
- Share successful education and process‑improvement ideas within the team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of financial services experience, preferably in phone and/or sales‑type roles.
- Exposed to Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam, Series 6, 63; must obtain Series 65 within 90 days of hire.
- Strong knowledge of IRA, 401(k) plans and general investments.
- Thorough understanding of John Hancock products, pricing, services and procedures.
- Good working understanding of 401(k) & IRA rules and regulations.
- Passion for one‑on‑one client support.
- Strong listening, customer service and communication skills.
- Analytical with solid problem‑solving ability.
- Effective in presentation and negotiation.
- Knowledgeable in policies and procedures.
- Works independently and collaboratively to meet targets.

- Competitive salary range of $40,000.00 – $66,700.00 USD, with incentive programs tied to performance.
