Role Description
The Senior Investment Data Analyst serves as a key member of the Colby College Investment Office, supporting the management of the College’s endowment through advanced investment data management, portfolio analytics, reporting, and technology-driven process improvements.
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, this position partners closely with the investment team to develop automated reporting solutions, enhance investment and operational workflows, and deliver meaningful analysis that supports investment decision-making.
The Senior Investment Data Analyst serves as a primary technical resource for investment data and reporting, integrating information across multiple platforms, developing automated workflows and analytical tools, and identifying opportunities to improve processes and data quality. This position exercises a high degree of independent judgment in the execution of assigned responsibilities while working collaboratively with Investment Office leadership, who retain final investment and operational decision-making authority.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create automated workflows to access and maintain data in the investment office
- Work with the team across investments and operations to create and regularly update reports for distribution within the Investment Office as well as periodic Investment Committee and Trustee meetings
- Design tools and processes that will systematically leverage data to help the team improve investment decision-making
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis on existing and new potential investments as well as the portfolio as a whole
- Monitor and analyze portfolio through performance analysis including return attribution, exposure analysis, company-level holding analysis, value creation attribution, and measurement of risks
- Conduct independent research projects on a variety of topics related to the current endowment and emerging investment opportunities
- Maintain and update manager benchmarks
- Interact with existing and prospective investment managers
- Mentor interns and help coordinate recruiting initiatives
- Attend relevant industry conferences as appropriate
- 2-5 years of experience with data structuring and analysis
- Prior coursework in statistics, econometrics, and or data sciences preferred
- Proficiency in at least one programming language and comfort experimenting with new AI tools
- Some knowledge of basic investment concepts and interest in learning about the investment management industry
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills
- Passion for using technology to make things more efficient
- Proactive and intellectually curious; a proven self-starter
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a small team, share responsibility, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and adjust priorities to meet challenges as they arise
