Financial Manager
We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance professional to join our team during an exciting period of growth. The Senior Financial Controller will serve as a key business partner to executive leadership, responsible not only for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, but also for driving financial strategy, forecasting, Ai financial initiatives and long-term planning across a multi-state organization.
This individual will play a critical role in shaping the financial future of the company by identifying opportunities for growth, improving financial performance, and building scalable processes and infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings both strong technical accounting expertise and a forward-thinking mindset, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights that support business decisions
Job Duties- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Manage cash flow, including daily, weekly, and monthly cash tracking and bank reconciliations
- Oversee all company bank accounts, ensuring proper controls, accurate balances, and timely monitoring across all entities
- Manage and track all lease agreements, rent obligations, and debt schedules, ensuring all payments are made accurately and on time
- Manage all bulk vendor and operational payments, ensuring no unnecessary or duplicate expenditures are made across the organization
- Oversee and manage all company insurance policies, renewals, and coverage adequacy across all locations and entities
- Manage and coordinate the outsourced bookkeeping team, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of financial data
- Oversee intercompany accounting between retail and manufacturing entities across Massachusetts and New Jersey, ensuring accurate reconciliation and consolidation
- Maintain proficiency in all operational and compliance systems including Quick Books, Metrc, and Distru, and drive integration between financial and operational data
- Partner closely with the Purchasing and COO to understand and manage monthly costs, cost of goods, Bill of Materials and production expenses
- Track and analyze cannabis commodity pricing fluctuations month-over-month, and understand their downstream impact on procurement costs, margins, and pricing strategy
- Oversee corporate entity structure across all affiliated companies and proactively identify tax optimization strategies to benefit the organization
- Leverage AI tools and help develop AI-powered financial models for forecasting, scenario planning, and operational projections
- Optimize inventory levels across manufacturing and retail operations to strategically release cash flow and reduce carrying costs
- Oversee AP, AR, and bi-weekly payroll processes
- Perform monthly variance analysis and provide clear insights into financial performance
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
- Lead inventory control and financial accuracy across operations
- Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal tax regulations, including Massachusetts and New Jersey, with a strong understanding of 280E tax implications
- Oversee sales tax, payroll tax, and corporate tax filings across multiple entities and jurisdictions
- Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to support annual audits and filings
- Own and continuously improve financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning processes
- Provide forward-looking insights and scenario modeling to support business growth and expansion (including new markets such as NJ)
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and proactively recommend strategies to leadership
- Develop financial models to support capital investments, operational changes, and new business initiatives
- Drive financial strategy, including cost optimization, margin improvement, and revenue growth opportunities
- Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team to influence strategic decision-making
