Match Charter Public School is a free, high‑performing charter public school in Boston. We provide education for Pre‑K through 12, serving up to 1,250 students, with a diverse community of over 20 countries and languages. Our mission is to prepare students—particularly multilingual learners—to succeed in college and careers, achieving economic security and mobility.

About the Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO is a trusted thought partner and integral member of the senior leadership team. The CFO leads the finances, administration, and policy direction of the school and its affiliated entities, supporting our mission of student success. Salary base $153,831, plus potential increase based on experience.

Job Responsibilities

The CFO will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership to manage and provide strategic thinking for short‑term and long‑term financial goals, objectives, policies, and practices. The CFO continuously analyzes financial systems, internal controls, and processes to ensure efficiency, compliance, and best‑practice adherence. The CFO also coordinates the Finance and Audit Committee.

Strategy, Finance & Budget
  • Translate the strategic vision into financial goals and plans.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present accurate monthly and annual financial reports to stakeholders—including school leaders, the board, and the lender.
  • Oversee a ~$40 million annual operating budget (FY 2027 estimate), directing budget development, yearly projections, long‑range forecasting, and fiscal accountability.
  • Direct accounting activities (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll).
  • Lead the annual audit process with external auditors.
  • Lead the team responsible for government grant application, expense tracking, and compliance.
  • Continuously improve internal infrastructure by fine‑tuning processes and updating systems.
  • Directly develop and implement procedures and systems to maintain proper records, internal controls, and services.
  • Evaluate and manage vendor and auditing firm relationships.
Administration
  • Oversee benefits and payroll administration, ensuring state and legal compliance for employees and contractors.
  • Partner with senior leadership on compensation policy development and implementation.
  • Work closely with the legal team on issues intersecting finance/HR and legal functions, including contract development and risk management.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Human Resources Officer to troubleshoot HR issues as they arise.
Team Management
  • Provide a strong day‑to‑day leadership presence, cultivating organizational values and an inclusive, engaged work environment.
  • Manage a team of three direct reports in accounting, budgeting, grant compliance, financial reporting, and HR administration, ensuring high‑quality, timely work.
  • Facilitate clear, relevant, and timely financial communication across the organization, Board, and Finance Committee.
Qualifications
  • Strong commitment to the Match mission, highly organized, detail‑oriented, flexible, and adaptive; a sense of humor is a plus.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in financial management, accounting, and reporting; experience in nonprofit or school settings strongly preferred.
  • Minimum a BA; CPA, MBA, or related degree desirable.
  • Strong manager and team leader with ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize goals, and oversee day‑to‑day work.
  • Solutions‑based problem solver with data analysis skills and forward‑thinking leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, develop people, and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to convey complex financial information clearly to stakeholders (staff, board, donors, vendors, lenders, auditors).
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to translate complex financial transactions into understandable terms.
  • High integrity and dependability, with sound judgment and evidence‑based decision making.
