General Statement Of Duties And Responsibilities

Provides executive assistance and support to the General Counsel on a wide variety of current issues related to the operation of the Sheriff's Department. Performs related work and duties as required.

Supervision Received

Reports directly to the General Counsel.

Supervision Exercised

Staff as assigned.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assumes responsibility for all projects assigned by the General Counsel, including the development of work plans and timetables for the design, coordination and supervision of activities within the Sheriff’s Department.
  • Researches correctional issues and prepares reports as directed by General Counsel.
  • Advises the General Counsel on pertinent issues as they arise.
  • Coordinates the General Counsel’s monthly meeting and assists with related agenda matters.
  • Represents the General Counsel’s Office at hearings, medical review panels, and labor relations meetings as required.
  • Flexibility and ability to learn and perform new duties and skills as assigned.
  • Assists the General Counsel by coordinating staff in the preparation of reports, and ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Performs such other duties and assignments as the General Counsel may delegate from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Ability to supervise and manage employees and various tasks as assigned.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of County, City and State governments, as well as law enforcement issues as they pertain to the Sheriff's Department.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods and practices of criminal justice planning, including program, policy, procedure and systems development and analysis.
  • Bachelor's Degree with major in public policy or government required.
Minimum

Physical Requirements For Essential Functions
  • sit or stand periodically for 8 hours;
  • lift up to 5 pounds;
  • carry up to 5 pounds;
  • climb stairs occasionally;
  • walk short distances; and
  • write and type.
Additional Functions Of Position

Participation in mandatory training.
