Position: City of Boston/Election Department

Overview

The mission of the Election Department is to ensure that all municipal, state, and federal elections conducted within the City of Boston are properly managed in accordance with City, State, and Federal laws. The Department also strives to ensure that all eligible citizens are registered to vote and that a comprehensive juror list is provided to the State Jury Commissioner. The City of Boston's Election Department is seeking individuals to serve as Listing Officers and Data Entry Clerks beginning in May and continuing through August.

Under the supervision and direction of the Election Department Staff, the Listing Officers will go door-to-door in neighborhoods across the City to complete the Annual Listing of Residents, as required by Massachusetts General Laws. In addition to this, participants will perform data entry and clerical work related to Boston's upcoming State and Municipal Elections. This work is crucial to protecting voter rights and providing city officials with important information to improve municipal services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Communicate with residents across various neighborhoods to gather residency information.
  • Update and input data based on the residents' responses on their annual census form.
  • Engage in considerable walking and stair climbing as part of the duties.
  • Assist with tasks related to election preparation and logistics.
  • Participate in Voter Registration Outreach events in preparation for upcoming elections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Election supervisors.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments, stay organized, and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision when required.
