Direct Counsel is seeking a Manager of Legislative Affairs & Government Relations to join a highly respected government relations and public policy team affiliated with a leading national law firm. This is an exciting opportunity for a politically savvy and strategically minded professional to support legislative advocacy efforts, regulatory initiatives, and client development activities across a broad range of industries and policy areas.

The ideal candidate will bring experience working within government, lobbying, public policy, or legal environments and will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative setting focused on delivering strategic solutions for sophisticated clients.

Responsibilities
  • Support the government relations and legislative affairs function across federal and state policy matters
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative and regulatory developments affecting clients
  • Develop and implement strategic advocacy initiatives and policy engagement plans

    Assist with advocacy efforts before federal policymakers, agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Help identify and prioritize proactive legislative and regulatory opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal teams and leadership on business development and client strategy initiatives
  • Conduct policy research, prepare briefing materials, and draft client-facing communications
  • Assist with managing escalated issues and developing strategic problem-solving approaches for clients
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, industry groups, and stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in legislative affairs, government relations, lobbying, Congress, a state legislature, or a law firm environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative and effective legislative or advocacy strategies
  • Experience or familiarity with policy issues related to:
    • Energy and environment
    • Health care
    • Financial services
    • Technology and telecommunications
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Team-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to client service and excellence
