Position: Housing Code Policy Manager

Looking for a Temporary Housing Code Policy Manager to help identify and implement building code changes that can reduce housing construction costs and make affordable housing development easier.

The role will focus on researching building codes, developing policy recommendations, working with stakeholders, and preparing code-change proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research and analysis of state and local building codes.
  • Support the Single Stair Technical Advisory Group and help develop recommendations.
  • Research and prepare proposed changes to make 6–8 story buildings more feasible.
  • Develop code changes that support small multifamily housing, such as triple-deckers.
  • Conduct cost assessments and evaluate the impact of proposed code changes.
  • Draft policy recommendations, reports, briefs, and presentation materials.
  • Prepare briefing materials for the EOHLC Secretary.
  • Work with external stakeholders and government agencies to gather information and feedback.
  • Draft building code amendments for submission to the BBRS.
  • Provide additional research and policy support related to building code development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of local or state building codes.
  • Understanding of the history and development of state building codes.
  • Familiarity with building code change and regulatory processes.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills with government agencies, other Secretariats, and external stakeholders.
