Ulta Beauty is the largest North American beauty retailer, offering a full‑service salon in every store. Our salons provide hair, skin, brow, and make‑up services in a retail environment with a wide range of cosmetics and products.

Position Summary

The Stylist engages with guests, consults on hair‑care needs, recommends products and services, and delivers professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s overall look. The Stylist supports the Experience Manager (EM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) by focusing on performance, people, and process.

Principal

Duties & Responsibilities Performance
  • Perform hair services including hair design, cutting, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing where applicable.
  • Meet or exceed sales goals ($800 average weekly) and productivity targets, contribute to overall store sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink objectives.
  • Demonstrate business acumen by identifying growth opportunities.
  • Conduct product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, new products, and service offerings, and articulate benefits to guests.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
  • Build guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
  • Exhibit high standards of customer service and salon image.
  • Serve all guests, including walk‑ins, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total‑store experience.
  • Foster professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional service.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
  • Participate in mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
Process
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures and state board guidelines.
  • Adhere to established service protocols for consistency.
  • Use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
  • Communicate supply needs to the EM to ensure guest readiness.
  • Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness and upkeep of all areas.
  • Follow the Ulta Beauty dress code.
  • Apply loss‑prevention best practices to protect company assets.
  • Perform other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications Education
  • Cosmetology license.
Experience
  • Previous salon experience is preferred.
Skills
  • Proficiency in latest salon techniques for hair services, makeup, and ear piercing where applicable.
  • Skill in using equipment and chemicals required for technical work.
  • Ability to recommend and sell professional hair‑care and makeup products.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain a clientele.

Position Requirements
  • Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent mobility during shift.
  • Continuous lifting or moving up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, twisting, and crouching.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Continuous or frequent coordination and manipulation of objects.
