Pride Health is hiring a Medical Transcriptionist for one of its clients in Massachusetts.
This is a 2-month contract with the possibility of an extension with competitive pay and benefits.
Location – Boston, Massachusetts (02118)
Length of assignment – 2 months (Possibility of an extension)
Pay range - $20- $26 per hour.
Shift – Monday - Friday - 40 hours, 11:00 am to 7:30 pm.
Job SummaryWorks in the pathology department reviewing and editing surgical pathology gross descriptions and final diagnoses, prepared by the pathologist assistants using Dragon software. Ensuring that the transcription and grammar are correct, complete, and have a consistent style.
Types surgical pathology final reports into the laboratory information system. Ensuring outside consult reports are typed in a timely manner into the patient’s pathology report. Coordinates frozen section procedures between the operating room and the pathology department. Packaging slides/block requests to various outside hospitals for 2nd opinions.
Ability to answer and triage a busy phone service.
Job Duties- Responsible for accessioning surgical and consult specimens, ensuring MRN, DOB, SPECIMEN SITE, and REFERRING PHYSICIAN assignments match the correct patient. Reviews and edits any incorrect grammar, spelling, specimen sites, and date of service on the gross description.
- Review and edit working drafts, prepared by speech recognition software, making sure that the transcription is complete and has a consistent style.
- Translate medical standard abbreviations from the referring physician’s clinical history into the appropriate long form suitable for a pathology report.
- Proofread and identify inconsistencies, errors, and missing information within a report that could compromise patient care.
- Follow up via phone or email with the healthcare provider to ensure the accuracy of the information as per the requisition, if needed.
- Follow patient confidentiality guidelines and legal documentation requirements as per HIPAA.
- Enter finalized medical reports received from the client’s health center partners via the OCHIN web portal.
- File glass slides and paper requisitions.
- Maintains files and records according to standards set by JCAHO, CAP, OSHA, and HCFA.
- Log-out and log-in, slides/blocks via the client’s COPATH system for current record keeping.
- Monitor voicemail to respond to messages left on the voice mailbox.
- Monitor fax machines to ensure all faxed reports, requests are being sorted and input into the patient’s reports.
- Utilizes the hospital’s Values as the basis for decision‑making and to facilitate the division’s hospital mission.
- Complete all required training in Workday and Media Lab.
- Compile information from various reports; inputs into the computer, prints, and distributes to residents and pathology staff.
- Must adhere to all of the client’s RESPECT behavioral standards.
- Education: High School diploma with one-year certificate program or 2-year associate’s degree with coursework in anatomy, medical terminology, legal issues relating to healthcare documentation, and English grammar and punctuation.

Required:
Completed postsecondary training in medical transcription preferred. - Experience: One to two years’ experience as a medical transcriptionist.
- Knowledge and
Skills:- Need a good understanding of the English language and grammar.
- Medical terminology and anatomy, and physiology related to pathology.
- Able to work under short deadlines.
- Must be comfortable using computers and word‑processing software and be able to type 40 to 50 words per minute.
