Position SummaryBaby Café is a welcoming, supportive drop-in center where pregnant and breastfeeding parents receive expert lactation care in a relaxed, community-based setting. We are part of a national network of Baby Cafés that provide free, high-quality breastfeeding support to all families. Our goal is to empower parents through education, encouragement, and compassionate care in a culturally sensitive environment.
We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and experienced Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) to join our Baby Café team as a Clinical Co-lead. They will provide direct lactation support, lead the breastfeeding support group sessions, and promote a positive, inclusive atmosphere where parents feel welcomed, informed, and confident in their feeding choices.
Responsibilities- Serve as a clinical co-lead in operating the Baby Café, including opening the session, facilitating discussions, and ensuring a smooth and supportive experience from start to close.
- As Clinical Co-lead, co-direct clinical discussions and give advice by assessing and addressing common and complex breastfeeding challenges, using evidence-based sources. Support diverse family structures and feeding goals with evidence-based care.
- As Clinical Co-lead, lead group education and stay current in best practices and continuing education in lactation support.
- Collaborate with partners when needed.
- Volunteer coordination to help establish the Baby Café, promote the Baby Café in the community, and attend regular check-ins with the manager and the Baby Café team at South End.
- CLC will attend the mandatory initial BCUSA training and will attend updated “Refresher Trainings” deemed necessary by BCUSA or requested by staff and/or sponsors of the Baby Café.
- CLC will complete Baby Café requirements, including:
- -- Weekly verbal/report given to an IBCLC
- -- Quarterly face-to-face or conference call meeting between IBCLC and CLC to discuss case studies/issues
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, community resources, and peer counselors
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for families
- Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance at the weekly Baby Café that lasts 2 hours
- Current Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or IBCLC license
- 3+ years of lactation counseling, or equivalent experience
- Experience working with a diverse population
- Preferred experience working in a Baby Café or similar group setting
- Preferred background in maternal/child health, public health, or perinatal support
- CPR-BLS certification
- Excellent communication, listening, and teaching skills
- Passion for supporting and empowering families
- Preferred bilingual or multilingual abilities
Hourly Rate: starting at $43.50 an hour, and up to $67.50 based on experience
