About the Department and Division

The Department of Population Medicine (DPM) at the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute seeks an early career scholar for a full-time position at Harvard Medical School, with an academic appointment commensurate with qualifications. The faculty member will initiate and participate in collaborative research in child health and contribute to building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment within the Division’s Child Health Research and Policy (CHeRP) Division.

The Department of Population Medicine has a multi-disciplinary faculty that leads population-based research and medical education. Its faculty oversees a diverse research portfolio addressing clinical, epidemiologic, and health policy topics. Centers of Excellence include the Center for Maternal Health Innovation, Research and Action (MIRA), Precision Medicine Translation Research Center (PROMoTeR), LGBTQ Health Center of Excellence, Center for Cancer Policy and Program Evaluation (CarPE), Center for Sepsis Epidemiology and Prevention Studies (SEPSIS), and the Center for AI and Biomedical Informatics (CAB).

Researchers also collaborate with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Mass General Brigham, Boston Children’s Hospital, and safety-net hospitals such as Boston Medical Center and UMass Memorial Center.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Within the Division of Child Health Research and Policy, areas of ongoing investigation include health policy, medical decision making, health economics, outcomes research in genomics, social determinants of child health, and quality of care. Faculty research addresses conditions that impact child health such as obesity, diabetes, eye disease, preterm delivery, and rare diseases.

The incoming faculty member should have a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent), several years of research experience with evidence or promise of a strong publication record; interest and skills appropriate for writing grant proposals to funding agencies; the ability to lead and work in multi-disciplinary teams; and the capacity to establish new areas of expertise for the Division and/or support areas of ongoing research.

Clinical degree and/or experience is preferred. Besides their principal research activity, the faculty member will have opportunities to mentor medical students, research fellows, and/or graduate students and will contribute to teaching and the broader mission of the Department and the Division. All faculty members are expected to engage in teaching—a minimum of 50 hours per year in the Harvard community—as a requirement of their academic appointments.

Teaching is defined broadly to include formal course instruction as well as supervision, tutoring, and mentorship of medical, dental, graduate and undergraduate students, trainees, or peers affiliated with Harvard.

Application Instructions

Candidates should send their CV, cover letter, and a statement of research interests to:
