Responsibilities
  • Receives diet orders from the facility’s electronic medical record, confirms patient’s name, room number and diet order upon receipt and verifies information has interfaced correctly with the Nutrition & Food Services computer system.
  • Manually enters ER patients and diet orders into the Nutrition & Food Services computer system; removes ER discharged patients and diet orders from the system.
  • Answers phone calls using good telephone etiquette.
  • Identifies patient using two identifiers (name and room number/date of birth).
  • Informs patient of current diet order.
  • Takes meal order and assists in menu selection, including advising the patient on what the prescribed diet allows, using available resources (recipe book, ingredient list, nutrient analysis).
  • Visits patients designated as Room Service Assist to obtain necessary meal orders.
  • Manually enters meal orders for all patients designated “non-select” for all three meals with correct ready‑at times.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, clinical staff, dietitian, and food service personnel regarding special requests or feedback.
  • Informs the dietitian of patient meal orders that may result in altered nutritional status.
  • Informs cooks and kitchen staff of any special room‑service orders.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co‑workers.
  • Performs additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Demonstrates ability to speak English clearly.
  • Demonstrates basic computer skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Completion of the nutrition module with successful passage of the module exam within three (3) months of hire.
Purpose of Position

To ensure efficient processing of patient meal orders in support of effective department operations.

Schedule Details

25 hours per week, Rotating Days, 6:00a-2:00p, 6:15a-9:15a, 10:45a-6:45p, 3:45-6:45, Every Other weekend, Occasional Holidays
