Radiology Physics Technician
Location: Boston, MA
Employer: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Employment Type: Full-time, Day shift, 40 hours per week
Pay Range: $79,040.00 USD – $ USD
Responsibilities- Perform annual/semi-annual physics and radiation safety surveys on all X‑ray equipment per Federal and State regulations.
- Generate and organize all required records.
- Analyze radiation safety testing data and report corrective actions to the Director of Medical Imaging Physics.
- Conduct follow‑up testing after corrective actions.
- Coordinate survey schedules with Radiology modality managers to minimize patient care impact.
- Communicate with staff and vendors to facilitate repairs, maintenance, and other services for safe and effective equipment operation.
- Perform radiation safety acceptance testing on all new X‑ray equipment.
- Provide physics support upon request by Radiology staff.
- Maintain physics testing equipment, including shipping to calibration vendors.
- Perform minor repairs on equipment not maintained by third‑party vendors.
- In collaboration with the Medical Imaging Physicist, perform radiation shielding calculations and tests.
- Master's Degree in Physics, Biophysics, Radiological Physics, Radiological Science, Nuclear Physics, Health Physics, or related discipline; or authorization by the Massachusetts Department of Health, Radiation Control Branch.
- 3–5 years of related work experience.
- Technical training appropriate to perform the primary job requirements.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of the Medical Imaging Physics team.
- Ability to meet schedule goals and deadlines set by the Director.
- Advanced technical computer skills relevant to the functional area and systems.
- 3–5 years of experience in a health‑care institution.
- Decision Making: Makes decisions based on instructions, standard practices, and procedures, usually requiring little supervision.
- Problem Solving: Addresses varied problems using observation, knowledge, and skills.
- Independence of Action: Follows precedents and procedures, sets priorities, and seeks assistance when needed.
- Written Communications: Communicates clearly in written English.
- Oral Communications: Communicates effectively in English with staff, patients, and external customers.
- Knowledge: Demonstrates full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies.
- Team Work: Works collaboratively in small teams to improve operations and share ideas.
- Customer Service: Provides high‑level service to patients, visitors, staff, and external customers; remains calm in stressful situations.
- Requires close attention to task accuracy; intermittent breaks permitted.
- Work routine is fairly consistent; occasional judgment needed for responses several times a week.
- Potential exposure to radiation several times a week.
- Protective equipment required several times a month (respirator, earplugs, mask, gloves, eyewear, etc.).
- May need to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or up to 20 pounds frequently; stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, and push items up to 25 lbs.
