Job Summary

Brigham & Women’s Hospital, a premier Level 1 Trauma Center and a primary teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is seeking highly experienced Certified Surgical Technologists for its high-capacity Main OR. This "OR Float" position is designed for adaptable professionals who can navigate complex multidisciplinary cases. BWH is known for pioneering work in transplants and robotic-assisted surgery; candidates must thrive in a fast-paced, academic medical environment.

Key

Responsibilities
  • Multidisciplinary Scrubbing: Support a wide range of surgical divisions, including Cardiac, Thoracic, Transplant, Orthopedic, and Vascular surgery.
  • High-Capacity Operations: Perform as the primary scrub in a high-volume setting, often involving the world’s most advanced imaging suites like the AMIGO (Advanced Multimodality Image-Guided Operating) suite.
  • Shift Rotation Flexibility: While the primary focus is Evening shifts, travelers will rotate to Days based on skill alignment and unit needs.
  • Mandatory Rotations: Each 13-week contract requires a 2-week rotation onto Nights.
  • Sterile Field Maintenance: Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques, anticipating surgeon needs while managing complex instrumentation sets.
  • Call & Weekend Requirements: Participate in at least two "short calls" per 4-week schedule, plus rotating weekend coverage.
Shift Details & Scheduling Options

The facility allows travelers to select from two schedule types:

  • 4x12 Hour Schedule:
    • Evenings: 11:00 – 23:00
    • Days: 07:00 – 19:30 (M, T, Th,

      F) / 09:00 – 21:30 (Wed)
  • Weekend Policy: When working weekends, shifts are 12 hours. Weekly hours are adjusted (to 8 or 10-hour shifts) during those weeks to remain at the contracted 40/48 hours.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certification: NBSTSA (CST) required.
  • Experience: Significant experience in a high-capacity/Level 1 Trauma operating room is mandatory.
  • Skills: Proficiency in robotic-assisted surgical systems and advanced imaging procedures is highly preferred.
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
