Position: Nurse Coordinator (PHN-10)

Description under the direction of the Head Nurse and/or Program management, plays a leadership role in investigating and following up on communicable disease cases/outbreaks or other public health concerns. Performs and oversees communicable disease surveillance, prevention, and control measures according to protocols. Collaborates with Division staff to identify disease patterns and risk factors, providing health education and outreach for prevention and control.

Ensures high-quality nursing practice by overseeing clinical activities and evaluating nurses' professional practice, developing standard operating procedures, and workflows for investigations and contact tracing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Investigate and provide care and follow-up for contagious diseases, including COVID-19, and vaccinate against these diseases.
  • Identify disease patterns and risk factors, providing education and outreach for prevention and control.
  • Assist in developing data collection tools, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Supervise subordinates, assist in staff orientation, and staff development programs.
  • Develop resources for case or outbreak follow-up.
  • Support CDC Division activities, including clinics and projects.
  • Provide nursing services at the TB Clinic, such as phlebotomy, patient assessment, education, medication monitoring, and skin testing.
  • Participate in special projects, research, and act as clinical backup.
  • Engage in staff meetings, community collaborations, and epidemiologic activities related to communicable diseases.
  • Lead education and outreach efforts on communicable diseases to healthcare providers, agencies, and community groups, serving as a resource.
  • Collaborate on public health preparedness for bioterrorism and other diseases; may perform duties of other CD or TB nurses.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Support BPHC's anti-racism initiatives in line with organizational policies.
  • Qualifications:

    • RN licensed in MA
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field required (10+ years relevant clinical experience may substitute)
    • Master's Degree preferred in Nursing, Education, or Public Health
    • 3-5 years of Public Health experience required
    • Experience with communicable diseases preferred
    • Supervisory skills required
    • Strong assessment, planning, evaluation, and intervention skills; excellent teaching, counseling, and communication skills
    • Ability to work in diverse settings and with diverse populations
    • Prior phlebotomy experience preferred or willingness to learn
    • Bilingual in Spanish, Creole, or Asian languages preferred
    • Valid MA driver's license and access to a vehicle
    • Willingness to learn about public health's role in addressing racism, social determinants of health, and health inequities
    • Commitment to health equity and social justice issues
