Position SummaryResponsible for overall technical operations of a small clinical laboratory and supervision of the laboratory staff. Knowledge and experience with Hologic Panther or Tigris is a must. Experience with a laboratory information system (LIS) is required, preferably Harvest LIS. Prepares and maintains current laboratory procedure manuals and documentation. Operates the laboratory to be in compliance with CLIA, OSHA, and Massachusetts state laws.
Works closely with the Laboratory Medical Director and Lab Consultant to ensure quality operations of the laboratory.
This is a contract role covering a vacancy. Anticipated contract length is 24 weeks.
Your Day to Day- Performs STI testing on the Panther
- Performs laboratory testing in compliance with PPFA policies, Title X, federal and state licensing (CLIA and OSHA)
- Performs necessary and timely duties to fulfill all testing requirements, from pre‑analytical to analytical and post‑analytical phases
- Evaluates all test results against established quality control criteria before reporting results
- Maintains technical expertise in all test methods performed and in the use of all laboratory equipment and the LIS system
- Establishes specimen preparation procedures; laboratory workflow and operational procedures
- Establishes criteria assuring the quality and timeliness of laboratory results; troubleshoots and resolves issues with the laboratory information system
- Effectively coordinates labs’ work with all other PPLM departments
- Maintains medical laboratory equipment by ensuring all required equipment function checks, maintenance, cleaning and decontamination procedures, and other necessary quality assurance checks are performed and documented as needed
- Manages inventories and ensures that the laboratory has supplies and equipment necessary to carry on its services effectively. Monitors contracted services and reagent rental programs, notifying the Director if contractual commitments are not being met
- Ensures routine laboratory security and safety protocols are followed at all times
- Collaborates with the Quality Director as appropriate
- Participates in PPLM’s efforts to achieve productivity goals
- Other tasks and responsibilities as needed
- 4–5 years of experience required
- Due to high‑complexity testing, a bachelor’s degree in a physical science or medical technology is required
- Experience with Panther strongly preferred
- Experience with LIS, Harvest preferred
- Experience with aseptic technique in the laboratory
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and laboratory information software
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs; must be able to stand for long periods of time and work with bleach
