Overview
Medical Laboratory Scientist I – Blood Bank (Night Shift, 10 PM to 6:30 AM)
Responsibilities- As Testing Personnel per CLIA, process specimens, perform tests (waived and non-waived), and report results. Under general supervision, perform only tests authorized by the laboratory manager and requiring a degree of skill commensurate with education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
- Follow procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records proving proficiency testing samples are tested like patient samples.
- Adhere to QC policies, document QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Follow established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting and either correct the problems or notify the appropriate supervisor or clinical/technical staff.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Required:
BS/BA in Science from an accredited college and ASCP Certification Eligible or Certified - Preferred:
Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology and ASCP Certification Eligible or Certified OR Certification eligible CLT at MGH with one year of performance evaluations which meet or exceed expectations and Ten hours of documented continuing education in previous year within division, hospital or external programs - Skills:
All of the skills and abilities required for Clinical Laboratory Technologist; high level of analytical ability and judgement; good understanding of department policies and procedures, test principles and equipment operation; ability to work independently on standard procedures and assignments; high level of professionalism; ability to participate in performance improvement, work redesign and divisional development projects
