About the ProgramThe Harvard Program in Therapeutic Science (HiTS) unites physicians and scientists under one roof so they can use collaborative team science approaches to solve the toughest interdisciplinary challenges in medicine. HiTS aims to improve patient care by enabling precision medicine approaches for disease diagnosis and treatment, and by advancing the regulatory process through data‑driven innovation.
HiTS is supported by two primary components:
The Laboratory of Systems Physiology (LSP) and The Harvard‑MIT Center for Regulatory Science (CRS). Within the LSP, the Tissue Profiling Service (TPS) Core Facility performs highly multiplexed tissue imaging and spatial transcriptomics on human and murine tissues and tumors for investigators at HMS, Harvard‑affiliated hospitals, and research institutions across the U.S.
The Associate Director of LSP Research Services leads management of scientific research and activities at the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology (LSP) Tissue Profiling Service (TPS) Core based on the Quad at Harvard Medical School and collaborates closely with other senior research staff at the LSP. The Core Facility performs highly multiplexed tissue imaging and spatial transcriptomics on human and murine tissues and tumors for investigators at HMS, Harvard‑affiliated hospitals, and research institutions across the U.S. The experimental and computational methods used by the Core have largely been developed by LSP staff and focus on optical microscopy of different types.
The Associate Director:
- Manages Core staff, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of a rigorous and innovative work environment.
- Evaluates incoming projects in consultation with other LSP scientists, including overall project feasibility, execution and prioritization, laboratory workflows, ensuring compliance with core policies.
- Directs the evaluation of new and improved technologies for spatial profiling, as well as relationships with facilities in the Boston area that support complementary approaches.
- Assists scientists at all stages of research using spatial profiling, including reviewing grants, writing letters of support, collaborating on funding applications, and providing advice and guidance on data collection and interpretation.
- Oversees the Core’s financial and administrative activities in collaboration with the LSP Finance Team, the LSP Executive Director and the Faculty Director.
- Develops cross‑functional teams, both within Harvard Medical School and externally, to successfully execute LSP's research portfolio with a specific focus on histopathology collaborations and core facilities.
- Represents the LSP via scientific publications and presentations at the local, national and international level through teaching and invited lectures focusing on best practices and state‑of‑the‑art approaches for spatial profiling.
