The laboratory integrates patient-derived cellular systems, stem cell-based neuronal models, brain organoids, mouse models, and gene-based therapeutic development to advance disease-modifying strategies. The Research Assistant II will contribute to both experimental research (approximately 50%) and laboratory operations and regulatory coordination (approximately 50%).
This position is ideal for candidates seeking rigorous research training in a collaborative academic medical center and who are pursuing long-term careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, laboratory leadership, or graduate/medical training. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and optimize molecular and cellular biology techniques (PCR, Western blotting, immunostaining, protein analysis)
- Maintain and support patient-derived fibroblast and neuronal cell culture systems
- Assist in design and execution of cellular trafficking and neurobiology assays
- Support mouse colony management, genotyping, and experimental procedures
- Analyze, organize, and present experimental data
- Coordinate day-to-day laboratory operations and workflow efficiency
- Maintain laboratory inventory systems, reagent databases, and procurement
- Monitor cryostorage systems and ensure accurate sample tracking
- Support preparation and renewal of animal and biosafety protocols
- Assist with regulatory compliance, safety procedures, and controlled substance documentation
- Serve as liaison with collaborators, vendors, and institutional offices
- Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive research environment
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related scientific discipline required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant laboratory research experience is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques required.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, patient-derived cell systems, or mouse models preferred.
- Experience working in a regulated research environment and supporting laboratory operations preferred.
