About the UnitThe Surgical Specialties unit is an ambulatory, procedural‑based clinic staffed by 29 surgeons, 9 Nurse Practitioners, and 3 PAs. The unit covers Urology, Colorectal Surgery, Interventional Pulmonology, Endocrinology, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Radiation Oncology, providing comprehensive surgical and post‑operative care.
Responsibilities- Serve as a role model and mentor to Medical Assistants, student externs, and non‑licensed staff.
- Provide direction and oversight for compliance and regulatory matters.
- Act as lead in daily operations, researching and prioritizing issues addressed to the Practice Manager.
- Coordinate patient flow with physicians, nursing staff, and other clinical providers.
- Support staff with workflow, computer systems, and office process changes.
- Complete pre‑visit planning, including review of clinical assessments and test results.
- Receive and prepare patients for exams.
- High school graduate or GED plus 2‑3 years of Medical Assisting experience.
- MA competencies through a certificate, associate’s degree in Medical Assisting, EMT, PCT, nursing clinical rotation, home‑health aide experience, or physician assistant program.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness and competency to train, mentor, and guide others.
- Computer and web‑based application skills; EPIC experience a plus.
- Certification in CPR.
- Phlebotomy skills helpful.

- Hydrocele drainage (aspiration, sclerotherapy)
- Minor penile procedures (circumcision, dorsal slit, frenulectomy, meatotomy)
- Prostate biopsy (transrectal or transperineal)
- Spermatocele drainage
- Vasectomy
- Pleural port drainage
- Thoracentesis
- Tunneled pleural catheter (placement, removal, sampling/troubleshooting)
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy (with biopsy or tattooing)
- Hemorrhoid banding
- Incision and drainage
- Sclerotherapy
- Seton tightening
- Thyroid nodule biopsy (FNA)
- Afirma genetic testing
- Wound dressing changes
- Staple and suture removal
$23.15 – $31.16 hourly. Compensation may exceed the base rate based on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other applicable factors.
Vaccination RequirementAll staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
