Position: Medical Dosimetrist (Senior/Staff)

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Physics, the senior dosimetrist will design and implement comprehensive treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy, contribute to the restructuring of the dosimetry workflow, and distribute assignments among the dosimetry team.

The department is equipped with two Varian True Beam linacs, a Cyber Knife SRS‑SBRT unit, an HDR Brachytherapy afterloader, a Philips Brilliance Big Bore CT simulator, and uses Eclipse, Precision, Brachy Vision, MIM Maestro, and ARIA 18.0 systems.

Responsibilities
  • Design treatment plans to deliver prescribed radiation dose and field placement in accordance with the radiation oncologist’s prescription.
  • Perform monitor‑unit and timer setting dose calculations using manual or software‑based systems.
  • Identify and contour normal and critical anatomical structures using CT, MRI, PET, and ultrasound imaging modalities.
  • Document dose limits and compliance with the oncologist’s prescription.
  • Perform rigid or deformable image fusion as requested.
  • Coordinate tumor localization and simulation procedures using CT, MRI, and PET.
  • Plan fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam‑modifying devices.
  • Assist in constructing molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Consult with therapy, physics, and physician teams to optimize treatment positioning.
  • Instruct therapist staff on treatment plan implementation, including compensators, wedges, and field arrangement.
  • Verify mathematical accuracy of all calculations per the established medical‑physicist system.
  • Conduct QA practices on treatment plans per department policy.
  • Fulfill QA and documentation requirements for clinical trials, studies, and protocols.
  • Assist with ion‑chamber, TLD, or film dosimetry methods as directed by the medical physicist.
  • Perform pre‑treatment and continuous QA checks to ensure delivery according to the approved plan.
  • Attend and present cases at chart rounds, tumor boards, and multidisciplinary conferences.
  • Assist in intra‑cavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures and dose calculation.
  • Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students and residents.
  • Comply with billing, coding, and reimbursement requirements for procedure codes.
  • Participate in clinical research and academic projects related to treatment planning and documentation.
  • Engage in continuing education on current planning techniques and dosimetry advances.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Active Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) credential from MDCB (or board‑eligible status for staff positions).
  • Senior position:
    Minimum 5years of active clinical dosimetry experience;
    Staff position:
    Minimum 1year or graduation from a JRCERT‑accredited dosimetry program.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $56,000–$78,500 (based on qualifications and experience). Compensation may include discretionary annual bonuses, merit increases, and 403(b) savings match.
