Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Director and Supervisor, the CVIR technologist supports the Endovascular Services department by performing technological activities in the Endovascular Suite for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional procedures in cardiology, vascular surgery, interventional radiology, and neuro‑interventional radiology. The position requires a 36‑hour schedule that includes days, nights, and evenings.
Responsibilities- Perform all required technological duties in the Endovascular Suite to ensure safe and effective patient care.
- Prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process and attaching hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
- Conduct sterile preparation of the catheter insertion site and maintain a sterile environment throughout the procedure.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot radiologic equipment, selecting appropriate technical factors for each patient.
- Configure radiation dose settings and acquire high‑quality digital images, adjusting techniques as needed.
- Work with the attending physician to obtain requested images and provide additional views or technique variations.
- Position patients and equipment for optimal fluoroscopic visualization while ensuring patient modesty and comfort.
- Record hemodynamic data, patient symptoms, and responses; communicate changes in EKG, blood pressure, O2 saturation, or other parameters to the physician and team.
- Verify that each examination matches the patient’s condition and history, requesting additional information when necessary.
- Use supplies efficiently to minimize waste and expense.
- Complete all required documentation for billing, including electronic orders, paperwork, CPT, HCPCS, and supply codes.
- Archive imaging studies appropriately after each procedure.
- Respond to emergencies and crisis situations per department and hospital policies.
- Maintain radiologic equipment in working order, troubleshooting minor issues and reporting malfunctions to management or Biomedical Engineering.
- Report errors promptly and take corrective actions to rectify them.
- Provide education and training to student and intern technologists.
- Handle phone calls and service requests professionally and courteously.
- Provide on‑call coverage as required for the department.
- Participate in research initiatives and develop research protocols.
- Document QA and QC procedures as required.
- Adhere to all radiation safety procedures, applying ALARA principles.
- Dispose of hazardous waste appropriately and wear lead protection as needed.
- Maintain current licensure, registrations, certifications, continuing education, and competencies.
- Model Boston Medical Center’s behavioral standards and goals.
- Perform other related duties as directed.
- Education:
Two years of post‑high‑school training in an approved Radiologic Technology program; CVIR education typically obtained through clinical training in an interventional radiology and/or cardiac catheterization lab. - Licenses &
Certifications:- Massachusetts state license in Radiography.
- ARRT certified and registered in Radiography‑R.T(R).
- Advanced certification and annual registration in either Vascular‑Interventional (VI) or Cardiac‑Interventional Radiography (CI) within 18 months of hire.
- Current ACLS, BLS, and telemetry certification.
- Experience:
- At least 2 years as a registered radiologic technologist and 6 months in a special‑procedures setting (e.g., cardiac cath or interventional radiology lab, including neuro‑interventional radiology).
- Preferred:
At least 1 year recent experience in a cardiac cath lab or interventional radiology setting.
Hourly range: $49.88–$63.27. Compensation includes medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) savings matches, earned time cash out, paid time off, and career advancement opportunities.
