Job Summary

The Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute's Cancer Outcomes Research and Education (CORE) Program is currently recruiting a Per Diem (8 hrs/wk) Community Health Worker. This position will support an American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)-funded research project focused on the refinement and pilot testing of a behavioral coaching program for caregivers of patients with cancer, with a particular focus on liver cancer.

Qualifications

The goal of the Community Health Worker is to educate, empower, and support caregivers of patients with cancer. The Community Health Worker will deliver a structured virtual coaching intervention to provide education, skills training, and emotional support. In so doing, they will create a trusting relationship and aid in building self-efficacy, social support, and coping among caregivers. The Community Health Worker may also be involved in other research activities such as data collection and screening of potential participants.

While the Community Health Worker is not a clinical position, it requires knowledge of basic clinical concepts including cancer care, behavioral medicine, and an understanding of when a referral to a licensed clinician is appropriate. The Community Health Worker will receive detailed training and close supervision by the oncology and mental health teams.

Responsible for working closely with caregivers and healthcare providers to ensure a seamless and person-centered experience by assisting with navigating the complexities of the healthcare system, building psychosocial skills, and providing support to improve caregiver and patient outcomes.

* Help caregivers understand how to navigate the healthcare system and communicate with their loved ones' care teams

* Educate caregivers about their loved ones' medical conditions and symptom management strategies

* Promote caregiver well-being through self-care and emotional coping strategies

* Help caregivers build support by identifying professional resources, strengthening relationships, and improving communication skills

* Build emotional awareness and cognitive reframing skills among caregivers to enhance coping

* Follow intervention protocols and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of caregiver interactions

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree Public/Community Health required or

Bachelor's Degree Psychology required or

Bachelor's Degree Clinical Social Work required or

Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?

Yes. In lieu of bachelor's degree, we could accept 5 or more years of experience in community health.

Licenses and Credentials

Community Health Worker [CHW-Massachusetts License] preferred

Experience

Oncology, behavioral health, community health, or related field, preferably in a clinical setting

1-2 years preferred

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

* Strong knowledge of the cancer care experience, behavioral health, and patient/caregiver advocacy.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines and experiences.

* Strong organizational and time management skills.

* Familiarity with electronic health records and data management software.

* Experience with or interest in learning about clinical research.

* Ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences.
