We are looking for a 1099 Interim SPD Supervisor in the Boston area. The SPD Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the department and the supervision of staff, and supervises and coordinates the daily technical tasks of reprocessing medical and surgical equipment to ensure items are assembled in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role is also responsible for ensuring customer and patient support through infection control processes, sterility assurance, and equipment/instrumentation availability, each in a timely and cost-effective manner.

- Examines and monitors staff job performance for compliance with departmental instructions, regulatory requirements, and established Sterile Processing Department (SPD) policies and procedures.
- Develops, promotes, and supports a collaborative environment that will encourage employee engagement and teamwork.
- Assesses staff competency in decontamination, reprocessing, sterilization, documentation, and distribution of sterile surgical supplies and equipment.
- Demonstrates proficiency by actively participating in daily departmental functions.
- Demonstrates support for the management team when assigned to various projects.
- Assists with staff training, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Documents performance concerns and recommends corrective actions when necessary.
- Assigns and coordinates daily staff work assignments.
- Provides operational support to the Menino, Moakley, Labor & Delivery (L&D), Emergency Department (ED), and other designated departments and clinics.
- Serves as a liaison among all departments.
- Collaborates with the Operating Room (OR) staff and Service Line Coordinators (SLC) on specific service requirements and needs.
- Communicates information regarding supplies and instrumentation.
- Monitors service quality and recommends operational improvements.
- Coordinates preparation for the following day's OR schedule using computerized instrument inventory and surgeon preference card management systems.
- Monitors the accurate and timely assembly and distribution of surgical case carts.
- Assists with inventory management and procurement in accordance with established par levels, whenever needed.
- Maintains inventory control through stock rotation and removal of expired supplies from inventory.
- Supports the consolidation and standardization of supplies and equipment for the department.
- Coordinates the receipt and return of loaner instrumentation.
- Oversees daily quality assurance monitoring processes, maintains required documentation, and coordinates appropriate corrective actions, including load recalls and equipment repairs, as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in all functions and tasks of the Central Processing Department.
- Provides managerial coverage during the Manager's or designee's absence, including supporting departmental operations across assigned shifts and hospital units as needed.
- Communicates effectively in both verbal and written English.
- Accurately receives and conveys operational information.
- Demonstrates professional telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
- Participates in required departmental education and in-service training.
- Provides educational presentations to staff, at least one in-service training per year.
