Job Summary The Golby Laboratory for Image Guided Neurosurgery is looking to hire a qualified candidate for the position of Research Assistant. The laboratory is part of the Department of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The main mission of this laboratory is to use imaging to improve neurosurgical outcomes for patients with brain tumors. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research activities
Work closely with diverse team in a collaborative research environment that includes research assistants, physicians, computer scientists, neurosurgeons, and neuroscientists with ongoing research studies in image-guided neurosurgery
Assist in scanning, image processing (fMRI/DTI) and other tasks that are beneficial to the overall program, with possibility of authorship if contributions are conjunction with Lab Manager, update and develop lab SOPs as appropriate.
Database software
Responsible for entering data and maintaining the study (Redcap) database per the expectations of the PI, for active clinical human studies protocols.
Use Redcap to assist with querying patient data for research.
IRB compliance
Ensure IRB and Good Clinical Practice compliance of documentation associated with active clinical research protocols in the lab.
Act as a regulatory resource by maintaining regular contact with investigators and study teams during the course of studies to guarantee that compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements are maintained.
Amend IRBs as regulations and research protocols change.
Attend institutional Human Subject Research regulation training sessions to stay current
Other
Adhere to BWH/MGB and department policies, procedures and objectives, exemplify professionalism, and exhibit values that contribute to the goals of the lab and the hospital.
Other tasks, projects and duties as required or assigned by Principal Investigator or Lab Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum qualifications for this position are the following:
Bachelor’s degree in research or science field required; neurosciences preferred.
Strong motivation for curiosity-driven research, hypothesis-generation and constant desire to improve understanding of lab’s area of research.
Experience working in a healthcare setting preferred.
Experience with database management.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES
REQUIRED:
Proficiency in regulatory compliance for human subjects in clinical research or the willingness to acquire such proficiency with training is required.
Careful attention to details and a meticulous approach to recording data are essential skills for this position.
High degree of computer literacy. Working knowledge of data management software and procedures. Proficiency with Redcap is preferred.
Experience with Power Point, Excel and other Microsoft office programs.
The ability to pay attention to detail, a meticulous approach to recording data, and the ability to work well with others on a clinical research team.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Strong critical thinking skills and ability to independently resolve problems.
Strong understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).Ability to work self-reliantly.
