Position: Patient Care Technician

Department: M3W Surgical Stepdown

Schedule: 24 Hours (Days / Every Other Weekend)

ABOUT THE Critical Care/3W Intermediate Care Unit DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:

BMC’s Surgical Step Down unit is a 38-bed unit providing care for intermediate level surgical patients. The patient population consists of post-operative and surgical specialty patients, including trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, transplant patients and cardiothoracic surgery.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team er the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families.

You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
  • Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • One of the following:
  • Fluency in another language a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Compensation Range:

$23.19- $27.17

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
