Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and Southeast Massachusetts.

Job Summary:

Bay Cove’s Boston based crisis services are operated through a subcontract and in partnership with Boston Medical Center and are an integral component of BMC’s operation of the Boston Community Behavioral Health Center.

The Crisis Clinician provides direct services to youth and adults in crisis. This Clinician assesses each person’s needs for services and develops a treatment plan that best ensures their safety and optimizes their effective resolution of the crisis. They facilitate the person’s engagement or re-engagement in behavioral health services through referral to community based services that are consistent with the person’s needs and preferences.

This position contributes to Bay Cove’s mission by working effectively with clients, family members, police, and community partners in a professional, hopeful, and respectful manner to ensure that client’s needs are being met.

This is a non-exempt position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Functions of the Position:

Works as part of the Mobile Crisis Intervention program that provides on site assessment and support, as well as mobile capacity to conduct assessments and treatment plans for youth and adults who are in crisis in a comprehensive manner attending to their safety and needs.

Assists the person in crisis with engagement or reengagement in needed services, utilizing community based health, behavioral health, and social services that will alleviate the presenting crisis.

Works with the person in crisis and their support network to fortify their strengths and coping skills.

Knowledgeably incorporates person centered and evidence based practices and philosophies into engagement strategies, treatment planning and the selection of interventions based on each client’s assessed readiness and expressed interest in order to support long-term recovery.

Provides coverage to the Community Crisis Stabilization (CCS) unit as needed conducting admission assessments, brief crisis intervention, and individualized risk management/safety planning.

When assigned to the CCS for coverage, the clinician will oversee the delivery of therapeutic groups on the CCS as leader, co-leader, or observer.

Provides brief treatment and support until requisite community services can be accessed in order to minimize reliance on acute inpatient services.

Documents all assessments and interventions in accordance with program and Bay Cove standards.

Provides services in a manner that is consonant with program, Bay Cove, and collaborative agencies’ standards, policies, and procedures.

Performs all other duties and projects as assigned by their Supervisor.

Requirements for the Position:

Master’s level clinician, license preferred with a minimum of 3 years experience working in a mental health setting

Demonstrated assessment and treatment skills in the provision of emergency services for youth and adults

Demonstrated ability to de-escalate crises in a manner that ensures safety for all involved and provides for the best care and welfare of the person in crisis

Able to assess needs and implement interventions in accordance with best practice standards for emergency care, crisis resolution, and recovery

Ability to assess crisis emergency situations and address them with appropriate clinical treatment for clients

Demonstrated knowledge of the evaluation process, including presenting problems, social, family, psychiatric, legal, and medical history. Capacity to effectively assess mental status, formulate a plan, and develop and implement an appropriate disposition for all clients
