Clinical Social Worker-LICSW (Weekends -16 Hours

Position Summary

The Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) will use clinical social work techniques and theory to assess, intervene, and consult with high-risk patients and their families regarding emotional and social problems. Duties encompass conducting psychosocial assessments, diagnosing psychosocial issues, planning and implementing treatments, providing education, supervising staff, and managing the internship program.

Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (One holiday per year)

• Assess patients and families to identify emotional and social problems and develop individualized care plans.
• Utilize the department’s psychosocial assessment tool as a guideline.
• Report suspected abuse and neglect and ensure follow‑up compliance with legal mandates.
• Initiate same‑day contact with families when indicated.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to address patients’ emotional and social needs.
• Provide psychotherapeutic treatment and psychosocial support to patients and families to reduce identified problems.
• Maintain regular contact with inpatient families (at least weekly) and increase contact as care changes.
• Apply Social Work theory to help patients and families cope with illness or social challenges, promoting improved functioning.
• Begin inpatient assessment within 24 hours of referral, completing within two interviews or seven working days.
• Complete outpatient assessments as soon as patients permit, concluding within two interviews.
• Complete Emergency Department assessments within four hours of discharge.
• Maintain patient confidentiality per hospital policy and exercise professional discretion in documentation.
• Document all encounters in the medical or departmental clinical record with date, time, title, and signature.
• Submit departmental statistics and reports within required time frames.
• Maintain clinical competency and attend staff meetings and in‑service education.
• Obtain continuing education units necessary to maintain licensure.
• Assist management in departmental quality operations and policy compliance.
• Supervise graduate students (MSW, BSW) and staff as assigned.
• Identify weaknesses in departmental operations and recommend improvements.
• Participate in department committees as appointed.
• Represent the department within the hospital and in the community regarding social work practice.
• Keep the work area and equipment neat, assist with cleaning, and report malfunctioning equipment.
• Understand and follow emergency procedures and hospital standards of conduct.
• Notify the supervisor when patients outside the regular age groups are present and seek specialized assistance.
• Provide clinical supervision to Licensed Clinical Social Workers and other department personnel.
• Manage the internship program, including paperwork, contracts, training, and evaluation.
• Support and coordinate new program developments related to the mission of Boston Medical Center.
• Provide task supervision, leadership, and support to staff as required.
• Lead committees such as bereavement, in‑service training, ethics, and trauma.
• Perform any other duties as needed, upholding hospital behavioral standards and safety procedures.
• Follow established infection control and safety protocols.

• Master’s Degree from an accredited School of Social Work.
• Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).

• Comprehensive knowledge of the Social Work process and related community resources and agencies.
• Familiarity with resources for children and families.
• Advanced interpersonal skills for effective interaction with healthcare professionals and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
