Lead Perinatal Sonographer

Organizes daily patient work schedule and corresponding sonographer workflow. Oversees adherence of timeliness of patient schedules. Keeps manager and supervisor informed of any issues that occur.
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assists in planning, scheduling assignments, and coordinates the daily work of staff sonographers, students and US rotation for OBGYN residents. (essential)
  • Participates in the department accreditation process for AIUM and Joint Commission readiness. Coordinates the department's monthly educational program (essential)
  • Assists in developing quality control procedures and instructs sonographers on technical aspects of their routine use. (essential)
  • Assists in clinical teaching of both staff and student sonographers and Provides assistance in the process of evaluating student and staff sonographers. Trains on new equipment and then trains other staff to use the equipment. (essential)
  • Troubleshoots in the event of a technical or mechanical problem. Contacts appropriate service engineers/vendors for equipment failure and/or service. Monitors equipment performance and preventative maintenance, including HLD Trophon and ViewPoint. Keeps manager informed of problems and service visits. (essential)
  • Coordinates and oversees the department's monthly educational program (MFM Lunch and Learn). (essential)
  • Organizes the daily department huddles and communication, regarding operational, staffing and other important aspects of the day. Communicates and discusses departmental problems or issues to the manager. (essential)
  • Oversees and monitors the patient flow between the ultrasound unit and the clinic. Has awareness around waits and delays and informs the front end staff of such delays. (essential)
  • In addition to the duties of the staff sonographer, the Lead Perinatal Sonographer is proficient in varied Ultrasound exams including Doppler and Color Doppler Ultrasound. (essential)
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Registration Reg Diagnostic Med Sonographer required., and Basic Life Support required.
  • 5-8 years related work experience required.
  • New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Nuchal translucency certification Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
