The Senior Clinical Social Worker provides advanced clinical care, program leadership, and strategic oversight for the Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Program at Mass General Brigham for Children. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, this role is responsible for delivering comprehensive psychosocial assessment, evidence-based intervention, crisis management, and ongoing support to children, adolescents, young adults up to age 22, and their families across the cancer care continuum—from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, and bereavement.
In addition to maintaining an independent clinical caseload, the Senior Clinical Social Worker leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of psychosocial, survivorship, bereavement, and family support programs that address the evolving needs of pediatric oncology patients and families. The Senior Clinical Social Worker serves as the psychosocial leader for the pediatric oncology program, partnering with multidisciplinary care teams and community organizations to ensure high-quality, family-centered care.
The role provides clinical consultation to staff, oversight of the Resource Specialist, and identification of opportunities to improve patient and family experience through programming and quality improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is an experienced pediatric medical social worker with exceptional clinical judgment, strong leadership and program development skills, and a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and advancing equitable, compassionate care for children and families facing complex hematologic and oncologic illnesses.
Qualifications What you will do- Provides psychosocial assessments of patients and families with social, emotional, interpersonal and/or environmental issues.
- Provides clinical care to individuals, families, and groups.
- Provides mandated assessments when abuse is suspected (child, disabled adult, elder) and specialized safety assessment when violence is suspected.
- Screen, address, and manage social determinants of health.
- Prepares and maintains all pertinent records, statistics, and progress notes.
- Master's Degree in Social Work required
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker [LICSW - State License] Required
- Minimum 3-5 years clinical social work in a medical setting required, 5-10 years clinical social work in a medical setting preferred.
- Demonstrates a mastery of a range of specialized clinical diagnoses and interventions.
- Conducts clinically competent complex and high-risk assessments, treatment plans and interventions.
- Demonstrates mastery in problem solving abilities, conflict resolution, efficiency, and communication skills.
- Formulates advanced psychosocial assessments and treatment plans.
- Collaborates with colleagues in developing assessments and plans in complex cases.
- Demonstrates advanced clinical judgment and innovation in advocating for clients.
- Demonstrates advanced working knowledge of internal and external resources and refers appropriately.
- Demonstrate ability to identify problems in order of urgency and initiate treatment plans towards timely solutions and appropriate time management skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to articulate SW clinical perspective in team meetings, effectively collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to comprehensively solve problems and optimize a plan of care.
