The 2025 Summer Youth Jobs program will take place on site ticipants will be matched with a specific hospital department and will work Monday-Thursday in placements. Included are some group sessions focusing on healthcare career exploration, professionalism, and additional training.
Job Description:Primary Responsibilities:
- Program participants will perform a variety of administrative or customer service duties assigned by their department supervisors and will participate in weekly group meetings with their peers and program organizers. (essential)
- Some High School required.
- 0-1 years related work experience required.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbally in a virtual format.
- Ability to work collaboratively in small teams virtually to accomplish required projects.
- Possess an interest in learning about careers in healthcare.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.
- Decision Making:
Ability to make decisions based on specific instructions, standard practices, and established procedures with minimal supervision. - Problem Solving:
Ability to address routine, somewhat repetitive problems by following clear directions and procedures, and identifying opportunities for process improvements. - Independence of Action:
Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided. Work is monitored by supervisor/manager. - Written Communications:
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers. - Oral Communications:
Ability to understand and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers. - Knowledge:
Demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures, with the ability to apply them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required. - Team Work:
Ability to interact respectfully with colleagues, professional staff, and external contacts to share ideas, identify issues, obtain information, or deliver services. - Customer Service:
Demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
- Work occurs at an average pace with intermittent breaks. Requires attention to maintain work quality.
- Work is fairly routine; any changes are communicated by the supervisor.
- No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
- Health Care Status: NHCW:
No patient contact. Health Care Worker Status may vary by department.
- Close work (paperwork, visual examination), monitor use, visual monotony, visual clarity within 3 feet, conversation, telephone, background noise.
Sedentary work involving exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, mostly sitting, with occasional standing, walking, and minimal pushing/pulling.
This job requires frequent sitting, fine manipulation using one hand, keyboard use, and occasional standing. Rarely, pushing/pulling using both hands.
