Position: Executive Medical Director, Global Medical (Nephrology)

General Summary

The Executive Medical Director, Global Medical Lead (GML), Nephrology provides global medical leadership for a designated disease area(s), accountable for global medical strategy/implementation and tracking of global activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Medical Strategy
  • Lead Integrated Medical Plan development/execution/communication (medical strategy, global tactical plan, publication, congress, evidence generation) in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational and DST priorities; distill insights to inform strategy; establish/track medical KPIs.
  • Apply structured problem-solving/root cause analysis; prioritize competing demands; develop/manage DA budget and fund allocation.
Scientific Excellence
  • Serve as product/disease area expert and primary medical contact for global issues.
  • Lead peer-reviewed publications, congress presentations, evidence generation, and global scientific communications/materials.
  • Perform medical review of brand and global medical content per SOPs.
External Partnerships
  • Represent the company at scientific/medical forums; engage thought leaders/key experts.
Medical Communication
  • Tailor communication to stakeholder needs; deliver external medical presentations; support training.
  • Interpret clinical data (trials, registries, literature).
Regional & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Own medical component of go-to-market model; support regional launch/lifecycle training/materials.
  • Drive internal alignment on medical content/messaging; lead DST-aligned medical efforts (GMAT chair).
  • Provide Medical Affairs leadership to launch/global brand teams; represent Medical Affairs in label discussions; support Access/Policy/Advocacy/Corp Comms with medical/scientific expertise.
Evidence Generation & Access
  • Lead integrated evidence generation and lifecycle management studies with HEOR; may act as medical monitor.
  • Oversee ISS programs; review ISS protocols; lead MAP committees as applicable.
Team/People Management
  • Recruit/develop/manage/coaching; inspire continuous development; address skill gaps; manage IDPs.
Compliance & Pharmacovigilance
  • Ensure compliance with guidelines/Code/SOPs/GCP/ICH; ensure AE reporting readiness; support safety communications.
Qualifications
  • MD (preferred), PhD, PharmD, or other advanced life sciences degree required.
  • Typically 10 years' experience with 5 years supervisory/management experience (or equivalent).
  • 6+ years relevant leadership in medical affairs and/or clinical development (global + country/region desired).
  • 2+ years disease area industry experience or 2+ years clinical/academic disease area experience.
