Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician
Under the direction of the Integrated Behavioral Health services within the Department of Psychiatry, the Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician works as a member of the primary care clinic(s). The IBH Clinician will be both at the Boston University Charles River Medical Clinic Practice and BMC Main Primary Care Practice. The role of the clinician is to work collaboratively with PCP providers to ensure the behavioral health and substance use needs of the patients are met.
The clinician will utilize trauma-informed strengths-focused evidence-based techniques and theories in providing clinical care to patients and families. Clinical work includes, but are not limited to, conducting assessments, warm hand offs, crisis interventions, making a psychosocial diagnosis, planning and implementing effective short-term treatments, evaluation, education and mentoring of the patient and family members.
The Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician will focus on assessment, stabilization, triage and evidence-based treatment over short courses of therapy sessions (time-limited). The Clinician will provide warm hand off (same day) access to patients during the clinic to support providers in connecting patients to care. Patients who may need a higher level of care or more intensive behavioral health services will be assisted with referrals and connections to our outpatient department of psychiatry and/or community-based care.
This Clinician will work closely with providers in providing consultation and support in understanding the behavioral health and substance use needs of the patients and collaborate together on patients treatment goals. The IBH clinician may provide supervision as needed. The Clinician will work closely with a team of other clinicians, psychologists, and psychiatrists within the Primary Care Clinic. The position is currently hybrid, which may change based on hospital expectations.
- Previous experience in Integrated Behavioral Health or medical setting preferred.
- Requires level of knowledge of Social Work process and community resources and agencies in relation to health, illness, and disability, and social determinants of health
- Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with various healthcare professionals, to develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families
- Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of racial and ethnic populations. Cultural humility is very important.
- Bicultural/Bilingual competency a plus.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
- Computer literacy with the ability to use standard word processing, spreadsheet programs and e-mail (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.
- Must be comfortable in a fast paced and dynamic work environment (sense of humor is valued).
- Attendance at IBH and Psychiatry meetings and in-service education program offerings through the Department of Psychiatry
- Attendance at primary clinic meetings under the direction of supervisor
- Obtaining continuing education as necessary to maintain licensure
- Performs other duties as needed.
- Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the hospital's mission.
- Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
- Maintains patient confidentiality according to hospital policy. Practices professional discretion when determining the inclusion of any patient information into medical record or department clinical record notes.
- Documents each patient encounter in the medical record or the Department clinical record concurrently according to Department policies
- Must adhere to all of BMC's RESPECT behavioral standards.
Education:
- Requires Masters Degree from an accredited school of Social Work or school of Mental Health Counseling or related field as determined by the Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions or National Certified Counselor (NCC) preparing for licensure as an LMHC
