Patient Access Coordinator

Our client, a leading academic medical center, is seeking a Patient Access Coordinator to provide administrative and customer service support within a fast-paced hospital environment. This person will interact regularly with patients, families, nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital personnel while maintaining accurate information and helping daily operations run efficiently. This is a 3-month contract position with the potential to extend.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional and courteous administrative support to patients, families, visitors, clinical staff, physicians, and other hospital departments.

  • Access, enter, and maintain computerized data and information accurately.

  • Interpret and appropriately use common medical terminology and abbreviations.

  • Respond to telephone and in-person inquiries and direct questions or concerns to the appropriate individual or department.

  • Perform general administrative duties, including typing, filing, telephone support, and document management.

  • Organize daily responsibilities, establish priorities, and complete assigned work efficiently.

  • Manage multiple tasks and complex administrative processes within a dynamic hospital environment.

  • Use sound judgment when addressing time-sensitive issues and making independent decisions under pressure.

  • Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital personnel to support effective communication and workflow.

  • Deliver consistently strong customer service while demonstrating diplomacy, teamwork, and professionalism.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • At least two years of relevant experience

  • Previous experience in admitting, a medical office, managed care, insurance, healthcare administration, or customer service strongly preferred.

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English effectively.

  • Additional language skills are a plus.

  • Ability to accurately interpret and use medical terminology and abbreviations.

  • Demonstrated competence with computers, computerized data entry, and information systems.

  • Ability to use and troubleshoot basic office equipment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate appropriately with patients, families, visitors, nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Basic administrative and secretarial skills, including typing, filing, and telephone support.

  • Ability to multitask and manage complex processes.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions under pressure.

  • Strong diplomacy, collaboration, teamwork, partnering, and customer-service skills.

Pay Rate: $25–$26.50/hour
