Faculty Position in Genomic Medicine and Neuroscience

The Center for Genomic Medicine (CGM) and Neuroscience Institute (NSI) (including the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery) at Mass General Brigham (MGB) invite applications to an open search for full-time faculty studying the genetic etiologies, pathogenic mechanisms, predictive models, and genome guided treatments of neurological disorders and brain health. Successful candidates will be proposed for Assistant or Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School (HMS), commensurate with accomplishments and experience.
The CGM and NSI are among the most vibrant hubs of genomic medicine and neuroscience research in the world. The CGM was formed as a cross-departmental initiative in 2005 based on the prescient vision that genomics was poised to influence most facets of biomedical research and clinical medicine. The Center colocalizes research initiatives across MGB and HMS department to bridge fundamental research, highly scalable computational genomics, technology development, and precision medicine across our ecosystem.
Our faculty also link the nation’s largest hospital-based research program with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Our programs are led by over 80 affiliated HMS faculty and 400 scientists and trainees engaged in all facets of genomic and precision medicine with ~$100M in annual research expenses.
The CGM is directed by Dr. Michael Talkowski (Neurology/NSI), and our community encompasses faculty and Units that include the Molecular Neurogenetics Unit (MNU) led by Dr. James Gusella (NSI), the Analytical and Translational Genetics Unit (ATGU) led by Dr. Mark Daly (Medicine), the Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit (PNGU) led by Dr. Jordan Smoller (Psychiatry), the Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU) led by Dr.
Heidi Rehm (Pathology; Medicine), and the Precision Therapeutics Unit (PTU) led by Drs. Stephen Haggarty and Florian Eichler (NSI). The CGM is also a major docking point for leadership at the Broad Institute, including eleven CGM faculty and affiliates among its Institute Members and Program leadership, including the Program in Medical and Population Genetics (Drs. Rehm and Daly), the Center for Mendelian Genetics (Drs.
Rehm and Talkowski), the Diabetes Initiative (Drs. Melina Claussnitzer and Jose Florez), and the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research (Dr. Benjamin Neale).
The NSI is led by Executive Director Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, Scientific Director Dr. Craig Blackstone, Department of Neurology (DON) Chair Dr. Tracy Batchelor, Department of Neurosurgery (DONS) Chair Nino Chiocca and comprises over 600 research faculty spanning the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry. The NSI faculty are deeply invested in a broad spectrum of fundamental and clinical research related to neurosciences, neurological disorders, neurotechnology, neurorecovery, and brain health.
Collectively, the CGM, NSI, and DON engage a portfolio of >$600M in annual research funding.
The CGM and NSI are partnering in an open faculty search to advance our strategic missions in understanding genetic influences of brain development and neurological disease. Areas of interest include the application of genetics and genomics to computational neuroscience, precision neurotherapeutics, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as mechanistic studies of disease biology, aging, and brain health.
