Position: Boston Emergency Services Team Call Center Clinician (Per Diem)

POSITION SUMMARY

Answer BEST 800# hotline. This key position within the Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST) Program is responsible for telephone screening and intake functions, providing telephone triage for individuals experiencing psychiatric crisis, assisting with stabilization and crisis intervention, and referring to appropriate sources. Position:

Part Time, Per Diem.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
  • Perform telephone screening of psychiatric patients.
  • Provide accurate screening for patients experiencing psychiatric crisis.
  • Provide resource information based on the patient’s needs and accurately transfer case information to other providers.
  • Document calls and recommendations for action.
  • Under the direction of the Clinical Director of BEST, identify appropriate inpatient settings for patients requiring admission.
  • Work with the patient, the patient’s family and referring agents to facilitate admission into the appropriate unit.
  • Maintain an up-to-date roster of area inpatient psychiatric units for adults, children and adolescents and maintain liaison relationships.
  • Develop and maintain liaison relationships with MBHP, DMH, and all referring agencies.
  • Refer patients to appropriate outpatient facilities as needed; maintain up-to-date listings and liaison with outpatient, residential facilities, shelters, and halfway houses.
  • Inform referring source of final disposition of cases.
  • Review findings with senior clinicians or Clinical Director.
  • Consult with providers regarding client assessments and crisis interventions.
  • Maintain documentation and records for all cases in accordance with program requirements.
  • Contribute to organization and administration of teaching programs.
  • Participate in all required orientation and training programs.
  • Complete required paperwork (e.g., evaluation forms) in a timely fashion to meet all regulations.
  • Attend appropriate clinical and staff meetings.
  • Maintain competency via ongoing continuing education and keeping applicable licenses up to date.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, education, counseling, or related field.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: LCSW, LICSW or LMHC license preferred.
  • Experience: Previous field experience in emergency psychiatry-related clinical activities preferred.
  • Knowledge and

    Skills:

    Knowledge of referral process and community resources; excellent listening, diagnostic, conflict resolution, and practical solution development skills; ability to create alternative plans; advanced interpersonal skills; effective communication in varied formats; cultural sensitivity and comfort with diverse populations; proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, electronic medical records, and web browsers.
COMPENSATION

Salary range: $30.90–$38.42 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, pharmacy; contract increases;
