-13th. Massachusetts General Hospital is offering a FREE Patient Care Associate (PCA) Training Program for individuals interested in building a rewarding career in patient care. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will transition directly into employment as a Patient Care Associate at MGH.
- Must be available to attend and complete the entire training program without scheduling conflicts (November 2nd - November 13th)
- Must be seeking a position of 20 hours per week or more. Rotating Schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Training time is fully paid.
- Childcare is not provided.
- On-site interviews will be held during the week of October 4.
- Weeks 1-2:
Massachusetts General Hospital orientation PCA classroom training at the Norman Knight Center on the MGH Main Campus - Weeks 3-6:
Unit-based clinical and skills training Hands‑on experience in a patient care setting Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. - Does this position require Patient Care? Yes
- Performs patient care‑related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
- Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Assist patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
- Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
- Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
- Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
- Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
- Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
- Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
- Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

- Basic Life Support [BLS] Certified Medical Assistant Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
