B. Cox Fellowship Overview

The George

B. Cox Equity in Urban Education Fellowship is designed to develop recent graduates and early-career professionals into leaders in their fields and communities. The program is a two-year, full-time initiative that immerses participants into teams focused on designing, delivering, and evaluating strategic, innovative solutions to complex challenges in urban educational equity. Preference will be given to BPS alums and/or Boston residents who participated in the METCO program.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the district’s employment verification vendor and processing.
  • Oversee the administration of BPS unemployment claims, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Manage communication and distribution of MBTA Passes in collaboration with City Hall, ensuring efficient access for eligible employees.
  • Manage the OHR departmental email inbox, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of inquiries.
  • Provide clear, consistent, proactive communication to schools, central office departments, and external partners to meet staffing needs and maintain accurate employee records.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders by providing accurate information or directing inquiries to the appropriate HR resources.
  • Collect and verify information from candidates, addressing questions related to HR processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare and complete a variety of management reports and metrics for employee data.
  • Compose correspondence, reports, memoranda, meeting agendas, and other documents using word processing, spreadsheet, or presentation software.
  • Assist with developing and providing professional development and/or training to staff regarding effective human resources and talent management.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding BPS HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage the end-to-end criminal background screening process for staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with all legal and district requirements.
  • Manage each school and partner program background check dashboard, ensuring accuracy.
  • Serve as contact person for district-wide employment agreement (EAE).
  • Coordinate departmental mailings, notifications, and other communication efforts.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support the mission and priorities of the Office of Human Resources.
Qualifications
- Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Early Career Professional
  • Strong program or project management experience with extraordinary attention to detail, professionalism, ability to organize, plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing spreadsheets, reports and database management (Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Interest in analyzing and interpreting quantitative data and diverse information and making recommendations based on the findings, specifically using Excel and Access.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
    Google Suite; proficiency in developing/maintaining websites.
  • Ability to adapt to changes quickly, proposing and implementing thoughtful solutions.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop good relationships and network with various populations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work as part of an active team, work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects, prioritizing daily activities.
  • Possesses growth mindset, actively seeks and uses feedback to improve performance.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize daily tasks; demonstrates strong attention to detail and ability to analyze and solve problems quickly and accurately.
