Job Description & How to Apply Below

We’re Summize, an ambitious legal tech scale-up based in the US and UK, working with businesses all over the globe. Our mission is simple, to get entire businesses working faster and smarter with contracts. We’re a growing team making big things happen out of HQs in Manchester, UK, Boston and San Diego, US and we’re not stopping! Following our recent $50 Million Series B investment we’re looking for forward-thinkers, innovators and problem solvers to join our dynamic team as we enter our next growth phase.

The Role

As we scale our US presence across our HQs in Boston and San Diego, we’re looking for a commercially minded US People and Talent Business Partner professional to be the heartbeat of our People operations stateside based out of our Seaport based office. You’ll be the go-to People person for our US employees, owning everything from day-to-day HR admin, advisory and business partnering to supporting our Lead Talent Acquisition Manager with recruitment campaigns.

You’ll work closely with our UK-based People team and report into the Chief Finance Officer, playing a critical part in making sure our US team feels supported, engaged and set up to do their best work.

What You’ll Do HR & People Operations
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all US employees on all HR matters, providing pragmatic, empathetic advice grounded in employment law.
  • Manage employee relations cases end-to-end. Including performance management, disciplinaries, grievances and absence escalating complex matters appropriately.
  • Regularly provide support and advice and guidance to US people managers
  • Maintain working knowledge of US federal, Massachusetts and California state employment law, ensuring Summize policies and practices remain compliant. Producing videos and in person training materials on policies updates or changes.
  • Processing and overseeing US payroll via our payroll system. As well as the administering and managing US Employee benefits for example; health insurance and 401K
  • Support the annual people cycle: performance reviews, compensation benchmarking, benefits renewals and engagement surveys.
  • Own US onboarding and offboarding processes, partnering with IT, Finance and hiring managers to deliver a seamless experience.
  • Contribute to the development and localization of People policies, handbooks and process documentation for a US context.
  • Provide HR data and insights to support decision-making, using our HRIS to keep records accurate and up to date.
Talent & Recruiting
  • Occasionally support the Lead Talent Acquisition Manager on recruitment for US-based recruitment campaigns across commercial and operational functions.
  • Partner with the Lead Talent Acquisition Manager and hiring managers in the US to build clear role profiles, development of market salary benchmarking data and support interview processes.
  • Champion a positive candidate experience at every touchpoint, representing Summize's brand and culture with care.
  • Support employer branding initiatives in the US market, contributing ideas to grow Summize's profile as a great place to work.
What we’re looking for
  • 3+ years of professional experience in an HR generalist, HR Business Partner or combined HR/TA role ideally within a tech, SaaS or scale-up environment.
  • Solid, working knowledge of US employment law particularly Massachusetts and California state law, FLSA, FMLA and at-will employment principles.
  • Hands-on experience managing ER cases independently, with good judgment about when to elevate.
  • Previous experience managing and overseeing payroll processes
  • Proficient in US employee benefits including health insurance, 401K etc.
  • Previous experience supporting recruitment campaigns across a range of functions and levels.
