Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources Department by administering a variety of HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, onboarding, training, policy compliance, and personnel records management. The HR Generalist serves as a resource to employees and managers, ensuring the consistent application of organizational policies, employment laws, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and facilitate orientation and hiring activities.
- Screen applications, schedule interviews, and conduct preliminary candidate assessments.
- Organize pre-employment orientation activities.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and concerns.
- Promote positive employee engagement and workplace culture.
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment and changes.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment activities.
- Administer leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other applicable leave policies.
- Liaise with benefits providers and vendors.
- Support performance evaluation processes.
- Assist managers with employee development plans and coaching strategies.
- Coordinate employee training and professional development programs.
- Maintain training records and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Assist with policy development, implementation, and communication.
- Maintain personnel files and HR records in accordance with legal requirements.
- Prepare reports and documentation related to HR activities and compliance audits.
- Maintain employee information within the HR information system.
- Generate workforce reports and employment metrics.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible HR experience.
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and related requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Proficiency with HRIS, MS Office Suite, and applicant tracking systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience in recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR compliance.
- Experience with in the public sector or municipal government.
- Familiarity with HR systems such as ADP.
- Certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
