Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking an experienced Service Now Software Engineer – Platform Operations to manage the technical aspects and development of the Service Now environment to join our Global Digital Services team based out of our Stevens Point, WI or Boston, MA office locations. This newly created position supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and high-performance Service Now solutions that enable digital workflows across the organization.

The candidate should demonstrate broad technical knowledge of Service Now products, such as ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, and Sec Ops, with a focus on platform architecture, governance, and automation.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing integrations with external systems using REST and SOAP APIs, ensuring best practices in CI/CD for Service Now code deployments, and applying advanced security controls for data protection. You will contribute to the optimization of workflow orchestration, monitoring performance metrics, and supporting automated incident resolution strategies. Experience in scripting languages such as JavaScript and Glide, as well as familiarity with Service Now Discovery, Service Mapping, and Event Management modules, will be highly valued.

The successful candidate must also collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to define standards, troubleshoot complex issues, and deliver innovative solutions aligned with business objectives.

• Administer and configure the Service Now platform including user interfaces, workflows, reporting, integrations, etc.
• Develop new applications, components, interfaces, workflows and automations within the Service Now platform using JavaScript, REST API, and web services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand business requirements and translate them into technical designs and solutions.
• Create documentation for new and existing solutions including application architecture, data flows, technical designs etc.
• Manage platform upgrades, patching, and performance tuning.
• Monitor system health and proactively address issues to ensure high availability and reliability.
• Establish and enforce platform standards, development guidelines, and governance models.
• Stay current with Service Now releases and emerging capabilities.
• Identify opportunities to enhance user experience and streamline workflows through automation and AI.

• 7+ years of hands‑on experience with Service Now platform engineering in a large enterprise environment.
• Proven expertise in multiple Service Now modules and custom application development.
• Strong understanding of ITIL processes and enterprise architecture principles.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and Dev Ops practices.
• Service Now Certified System Administrator (CSA) and Certified Application Developer (CAD) required; additional certifications (e.g., ITSM, ITOM, HRSD) are a plus.
