OverviewSenior Data Engineering / Analytics Engineering Contractor
This is a hands‑on, senior‑level contractor role focused on building and owning foundational data assets that power analytics, reporting, and future machine‑learning use cases. The work is heavy on data engineering and analytics engineering execution. If you enjoy designing clean, durable data models and stitching together complex systems, this is the role for you!
You’ll initially collaborate with a senior full‑time data leader who will be going on a brief leave, then fully own the workstream during their absence, followed by knowledge transfer. You will be well‑supported at the start and have the chance to make a high impact very quickly.
What You’ll DoDesign, build, and own core customer and machine data assets, including:
- Canonical customer and machine records (with historical tracking)
- Data lineage and traceability (e.g., customer merges, machine movements, entity history)
- Develop and maintain Snowflake + dbt data models that serve as trusted, reusable foundations
- Architect backend data flows that support:
- Complex, non‑linear integrations across many systems
- Bidirectional and evolving data patterns
- Establish pragmatic data governance:
- Clear naming, structure, and standards
- Enough rigour to create order and trust‑without slowing teams down
- Create a clean, well‑defined frontend data layer that syncs reliably across systems
- Deliver both:
- Foundational datasets for broad reuse
- Lightweight "on top" outputs (e.g., simple dashboards) to validate and showcase the data
- Ensure data is analytics and ML‑ready, enabling future advanced modelling and experimentation
- Data Modeling - primarily Snowflake with dbt
- Data Governance - practical, opinionated, and right‑sized
- Systems Integration - comfort working with many sources flowing into a shared analytics layer
- Strong experience with Snowflake and dbt
- Deep understanding of data modelling for analytics and operational use cases
- Proven ability to design and maintain scalable data platforms
- Experience integrating data from multiple sources into a unified architecture
- Comfort owning data quality, structure, and long‑term usability
- Experience layering basic dashboards or visualisations on top of datasets
- Familiarity with ML or advanced analytics workflows, especially ensuring model‑ready attributes
- Exposure to tools like Looker or similar BI platforms
- Collaborative, low‑ego working style with strong peer compatibility
- Comfortable managing up‑proactively pulling in stakeholders when needed rather than waiting
- Ability to work effectively across teams with varying data maturity and priorities
- Clear communicator who can explain tradeoffs and decisions without over complicating things
