This Principal IS (Information Systems) Application Analyst supports DFCI Information Services department systems and applications. The IS Principal Application Analyst will lead application deployment, configuration, system upgrades and maintenance for the many applications within the department. The role will continuously develop and implement process improvements that focus on optimizing operational efficiency, patient safety, and the quality of care. These functions are accomplished through participation in departmental projects with interdisciplinary teams that focus on workflow efficiency, clinical procedures, and applications training.
Additionally, the IS Principal Application Analyst position requires a strong understanding of clinical workflows, excellent analytical and communication skills, and experience working with technical systems and interfaces.

- Conduct thorough evaluations of current software applications to assess functionality, performance, and user satisfaction.
- Identify and document shortcomings or areas for improvement within existing applications to better meet organizational needs.
- Serve as the top technical and functional subject-matter expert; resolve the highest-severity incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative controls and resiliency patterns.
- Own enterprise-level application domains and cross-application architecture; define and steward standards for configuration, integrations, data, security, testing, and release management.
- Translate business strategy into application roadmaps; partner with product owners and business leaders to prioritize portfolio and backlogs based on value, risk and feasibility.
- Work closely with customers to define business needs and develop project work approach, scope and timeline to meet both system and operational objectives.
- Participate in IS and clinical department projects, system upgrades and system enhancements utilizing standard project lifecycle tools and methodologies.
- Lead and supports process improvement and new technology initiatives
- Continual evaluation of existing workflows to identify inefficiencies and areas of improvement.
- Explores external vendors and internal resources for improvement opportunities surrounding clinical department applications, and operational support.
- Define and track KPIs/OKRs for application performance, reliability, and adoption; champion continuous improvement and post-implementation value realization.
- Collaborate to design and implement training and professional development activities so that work is conducted in thoughtful planned manner
- Triage and prioritize training requests and recommend appropriate instructional methods such as individual or group instruction, lectures, online learning, hands-on workshop, or printed materials.
- Serve as Administrator for online learning management system (e.g. Health Stream). May include managing accounts, creating and maintaining online courses and curricula, running and analyzing reports, and leading troubleshooting when necessary.
- Manage vendor relationships for critical platforms; evaluate solutions, influence vendor roadmaps, oversee escalations, and ensure contractual SLAs and support models meet business needs.
- Align support efforts with organizational IT and clinical operations.
Skills and Abilities
- Deep expertise across multiple enterprise applications and modules, including advanced configuration, workflow design, and end-to-end solution integration.
- Skilled at managing and implementing change, particularly in quality improvement or process improvement initiatives.
- Operate with high autonomy, set direction and practices, mentor others, and drive adoption across teams; translate strategy into executable roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills to effectively work with various hospital departments, end users, senior leadership and IT department support teams.
- Comfort with ambiguity, rigorous impact/risk analysis, and making clear trade-offs that balance speed, cost, risk, and quality.
